      <title>The js13kGames 2025 competition has started!</title>

      <description>&lt;p&gt;The &lt;strong&gt;fourteenth&lt;/strong&gt; yearly edition of the online &lt;a href="https://js13kgames.com" rel="noopener noreferrer"&gt;js13kGames&lt;/a&gt; competition starts… &lt;strong&gt;NOW&lt;/strong&gt;! Build a web game following the theme within the next month and fit it into a 13 kilobyte zip package to win lots of cool prizes, eternal fame, and respect from fellow devs!&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;This year’s theme is… &lt;strong&gt;Black Cat&lt;/strong&gt;!&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Quite straightforward and literal, but you can use this particular black cat however you like: as a main character, element of the story, gameplay, or as an NPC. You can make a simple Doodle Jump clone like our &lt;a href="https://js13kgames.com/2021/blog/triska-reloaded" rel="noopener noreferrer"&gt;Triska Reloaded&lt;/a&gt; with &lt;strong&gt;Badlucky&lt;/strong&gt; , or fully 3D RPG. It could even be a C.A.T. codename for anything really, not involving felines at all - &lt;strong&gt;unleash your creativity&lt;/strong&gt;!&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;When you’re ready, send your game through the &lt;a href="https://js13kgames.com/submit" rel="noopener noreferrer"&gt;Submit form&lt;/a&gt; when it opens a couple of days from now, around Monday August 18th.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Not a game, but I did some “coding”! I mean, I’m not sure anymore as I haven’t written a single line of code, but I did release a shader - check out &lt;a href="https://enclavegames.com/blog/js13kgames-v-shader" rel="noopener noreferrer"&gt;Vibe coding js13kGames shader for the V Shaders challenge&lt;/a&gt; blog post. It’s not much, but it’s js13kGames-branded, animates nicely, don’t throw any errors in the console, and looks good enough. Vibe coded it super fast with ChatGPT.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;One of the optional challenges in the recently ended &lt;a href="https://gamedevjs.com/jam/2025/" rel="noopener noreferrer"&gt;Gamedev.js Jam 2025&lt;/a&gt; was &lt;a href="https://gamedevjs.com/competitions/gamedev-js-jam-2025-v-shaders-challenge/" rel="noopener noreferrer"&gt;V Shaders one&lt;/a&gt; by the &lt;strong&gt;V Systems&lt;/strong&gt; team, which was all about creating a 16 kilobyte shader and uploading it to their Marketplace as an NFT.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;I can’t afford to have enough spare time to participate in my own jams and competitions, but this was a bit different: the deadline was extended from the original April 26th. When I wrapped &lt;strong&gt;Gamedev.js Jam 2025&lt;/strong&gt; I could check how easy (or difficult) it was to participate, as the submission process was outside of Itch.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;I wanted to properly start coding the shader in VS Code or Cursor, but decided to ask ChatGPT a few general questions about shaders first. Interestingly enough, after a few answers I ended up with a source code for an example shader, and decided to iterate on that.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;After a few simple prompts I ended up with a simple, basic shader animating “flow” in the background, with the &lt;a href="https://js13kgames.com/" rel="noopener noreferrer"&gt;js13kGames&lt;/a&gt; logo wiggling in the front. I’ve updated the colors to reflect the js13kGames branding and that’s it!&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;It would take 5 minutes, but the remaining 55 was spent on trying to force ChatGPT into embedding the svg logo in a shader itself - after about ten failed attempts at fixing it I had to do a small research myself and apply the changes manually.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;After all the output was a single index.html file, so it wasn’t that difficult. I zipped it and moved to the next steps:&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Follow the &lt;a href="https://medium.com/vsystems/13-26-april-create-your-shader-to-win-up-to-1000-v-hackathon-f172e4ee3e55" rel="noopener noreferrer"&gt;introductory blog post&lt;/a&gt; and &lt;a href="https://medium.com/vsystems/compile-your-shader-into-a-binary-format-v-hackathon-tutorial-47b41f39065b" rel="noopener noreferrer"&gt;step-by-step tutorial&lt;/a&gt; from the V Systems folks and you’ll easily make a submission yourself. You can even ignore forking their repo and doing all the Rust building as the zip &lt;a href="https://github.com/end3r/v-shader-js13k" rel="noopener noreferrer"&gt;with the html file containing the shader&lt;/a&gt; is good enough to be submitted to the Marketplace directly.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;You do need a bit of $VSYS to create &lt;a href="https://marketplace.v.systems/discover/series-detail/?collectionId=CCFrugPEYxN5PspVRy5hjL4zDk9E1Lj7a4U" rel="noopener noreferrer"&gt;your collection in their Marketplace&lt;/a&gt;, which you’d get from V Systems folks, but if you don’t want to wait you can buy some through an exchange like MEXC. You only need a few cents to do that though, and then you’ll be able to &lt;a href="https://marketplace.v.systems/discover/nft-detail/?nftTokenId=TWaR5A2wx9RgTsmFs17vsSeuHE2X4zyWCtJPqdtKL" rel="noopener noreferrer"&gt;mint NFTs&lt;/a&gt; freely.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;That’s it - two hours of tinkering to have a chance at winning up to $1000 in four different categories with the total prize pool of $12000, so definitely worth checking out!&lt;/p&gt;

      <description>&lt;p&gt;&lt;a href="https://gamedevjs.com/jam/2025/" rel="noopener noreferrer"&gt;Gamedev.js Jam 2025&lt;/a&gt;, the sixth yearly edition of the online web game development competition wrapped two days ago, on April 26th - our community broke the record (again) and we ended up with &lt;strong&gt;420 submitted games&lt;/strong&gt;!&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;That’s 175% increase from &lt;a href="https://gamedevjs.com/competitions/all-the-entries-from-gamedev-js-jam-2024/" rel="noopener noreferrer"&gt;last year’s 238 entries&lt;/a&gt;, which was our previous record. All built within 13 days between April 13th and 26th on a given theme: &lt;a href="https://gamedevjs.com/competitions/gamedev-js-jam-2025-start-and-theme-announcement/#theme" rel="noopener noreferrer"&gt;BALANCE&lt;/a&gt;.&lt;/p&gt;

      <title>W3C Games CG March 2025: Loading and Control API</title>

&lt;p&gt;It all started with &lt;strong&gt;Tom Greenaway&lt;/strong&gt; ’s &lt;a href="https://github.com/tcmg/open-mini-games" rel="noopener noreferrer"&gt;Open Mini Games&lt;/a&gt; proposal a &lt;a href="https://end3r.com/blog/w3c-games-cg-tpac-2020" rel="noopener noreferrer"&gt;few years ago&lt;/a&gt;, and was brought back during &lt;a href="https://end3r.com/blog/w3c-games-cg-nov-2024" rel="noopener noreferrer"&gt;November’s meetup&lt;/a&gt; where we had &lt;strong&gt;Andrew Gildfind&lt;/strong&gt; from &lt;a href="https://gamesnacks.com/" rel="noopener noreferrer"&gt;GameSnacks&lt;/a&gt; talking about discovery, distribution, and monetisation.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;By creating a new group instead of having the current one we won’t be needing to change the charter, which would mean all members needing to actively agree to it or be kicked out. The original group was created to have an open discussion (mostly through our online meetups) about web games in general, which can still serve its purpose, while the new one would actually focus on the &lt;strong&gt;work&lt;/strong&gt; needed to have such API documented and implemented.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;I passed my driving test recently, in the very first attempt (with the car number 13). Something I thought I’ll never do in my whole life, drive a car, is now “just” another skill I learned. We’re currently trying to get our own car, but everything that can go sideways goes sideways. It’s really frustrating to bump into issues on every single step of the process, but we’ll get there eventually.&lt;/p&gt;
