Fun, cartoony COIL video?

I need your help, please! Sometime in the past, I watched a super cute video (?) that explained COIL in a fun way, with cartoon-like characters. Or maybe it was a slide show---maybe connected with one of the grants? (I wish I could remember more details!) I want to link to it from my site---but I can't find it anywhere. I've looked waaaay back thru this site, and I've typed multiple keywords into search engines. Can anyone help me locate this (or a different fun intro to COIL)? I want a simple way to introduce my users to COIL/web monetization and so on. Thanks for any help you can give me!

Is anyone else having this problem? Every morning since my previous post, I've had this issue. COIL just "hangs", saying "Setting up payment". With correct operation, it takes only about a second for the green border on the COIL icon to turn solid green, and then I can see streaming income in the lower left of my screen, and I can see my real-time income in Uphold. But when it hangs, none of this is happening. I try clearing the cache, closing and re-opening the browser... nothing seems to work consistently. But---eventually---(it can take over an hour) it does eventually seem to start working again. I didn't have any of these issues until the COIL icon (which appears in the browser header) was changed, a few days ago.

Note: I have to turn my COIL extension on/off repeatedly in order to work on my website... could this be causing the issues? Please comment below if you're having this same problem, so I can determine if it's just me (or not)! Thanks!

There appear to be some new COIL software changes. I'm seeing a new indicator/icon in the header of browser (I use Edge on a Windows 10 machine.) I've been seeing "Setting up payment" (with running dots along the bottom) for about 15 minutes now (even after repeatedly refreshing pages) and COIL doesn't seem to be loading. It's Friday, July 9, 2021, 7:49 AM local time (Sahuarita, Arizona, USA). There is no indicator in the lower left page, where I usually see streaming income. Is anyone else seeing this new behavior? I'm monetized myself, so I (usually) see my own income when I visit my own pages... and, I'm seeing the same behavior on these community web monetization pages.

Randomly block content; unlock with COIL

I started monetizing my web pages in January 2021 with COIL, and have tried a lot of ways to expose my users to COIL, web monetization, issues that web creators face, ...

Thought I'd share my newest adventure. I'm randomly blocking my lessons: each day, there's about a 50% chance that you'll see (or not see) a lesson. A COIL membership unlocks ALL the lessons. This way, no one in the world is denied any content, but people who aren't COIL users may have to exercise some patience (as in: wait a day, try again).

Also, I'm in the process of giving users yet another way to unlock content: "buying" an individual lesson through PayGo. (They're on a mission to save the news, and have a wonderful ongoing experiment with Dan Rather.) My plan is to unlock my lessons at prices ranging from 1 penny per lesson in Algebra I, to 4 cents per lesson for Precalculus.

I'd be very interested in hearing from other people with COIL-monetized web pages about your success (or lack of) in earning money on your web-monetized pages! I sure haven't (yet!) been successful in getting my users COIL-monetized, but I'm having fun trying.

Here's my first lesson, if you want to see "for real" what I'm doing. If you're COIL-monetized, then you'll need to turn OFF your COIL extension to see the blocking behavior! (Because, of course, the content is NOT blocked for COIL users!) And, you might have to click through a few lessons before you find one blocked, because the blocking is ... random ...

I just stumbled on this web monetization community... so hello, everyone! I recently monetized my site, and I'm using a read-thru of my lessons (by me) for my COIL-recommended "100+20". I've written up a tutorial on how I do it (with complete HTML/CSS/JavaScript), in case this idea appeals to anyone else. Here's the URL:

Try the audio read-thru on the top of this page, both monetized and not (i.e., turn off your COIL extension), to see how it behaves for monetized versus non-monetized users.
