Internet Archive: Our latest non-profit recipient

The Internet Archive, a 501(c)(3) non-profit, is building a digital library of Internet sites and other cultural artifacts in digital form. Like a paper library, they provide free access to researchers, historians, scholars, people with print disabilities, and the general public. Their mission is to provide Universal Access to All Knowledge.

Internet Archive began in 1996 by archiving the Internet itself, a medium that was just beginning to grow in use. Like newspapers, the content published on the web was ephemeral - but unlike newspapers, no one was saving it. Today they have 25+ years of web history accessible through the Wayback Machine and they work with 950+ library and other partners through their Archive-It program to identify important web pages.

We're excited to direct payments from the global areas of this site to Internet Archive. As of today, this community forum has 1087 members, many who use Coil to stream micropayments. We're about to kick off The Grand MozFest Web Monetization Experiment -- our community's first chance to experiment with tipping -- and we're excited to see how this benefits all of our non-profit friends, including the Internet Archive.

Remember: you can set your own payment pointer on this site, you can support one of these non-profits, or you can leave the setting blank and all revenue will go to the global recipient.

This is great! It's one of the most useful non-profit service that I sometimes use, so I'll be using their payment pointer my account's payment pointer from now on.
