PARTY TIME ✨ 🍰

It is time for celebration, for the first time since I started programming Little Webby Press, a book generated by the tool passed the validation from epubcheck without any warnings or error.

There is still a lot of code to build. I don’t have a good way to generate the table of contents and index, I also need better markup for the cover as well. After that is solved, it will be time to work on the static site generator for the books.

Moby Dick sample just passed validation.

Andre, did you add a payment pointer to this post?

This post here? or the original in my blog? My blog has a payment pointer but it is wrong, I just updated the source and am waiting for the deploy. For this new community site it is not clear for me where to add the payment pointer, I'm new to DevTo-style sites.

Yes! And if you put it there, I can tip you!!!

"Next, put your payment pointer to work! The first place to do that is right here on community.webmonetization.org. Go to your settings page and add your payment pointer to your Web Monetization settings."

Oh, I never checked the "misc" part of the settings. Just added my payment pointer there. :-)

Love it and hi Andre!!!! So how does the WM work on these?

Hey Chris, I missed you! :D

So Little Webby Press generates two deliverables:

  • An eBook suitable for eReaders.
  • A static website for the book.

This static website may contain just metadata about the book and links to download, or the book content, it is up to the author. They can also have a sample of the book on the site and unlock the rest of the chapters when the reader is WM-enabled.

I've been focusing on the eBook generation first because it is harder. There are a lot of little gotchas to get an EPUB that passes "Adobe Epubcheck" validation. I believe that next week I'll be ready to start on the site generation.

All the WM tech is on the site that is generated. I can see this as a way for indie authors to control their platforms and monetize them.

OK good to know, will be good to play with those WM aspects on the website. I believe single payments is a Coil feature that will ship soon. I wonder if it would be fun to experiment with "pay what you want models"

The use case I want to implement is unlocking extra chapters on the site for users who are webmonetized. I suspect this is not that hard. Later once single-payment is more mature I can look into it as well.
