Hi everyone! π
I'm Erika, I use she/her, and I'm on the Grant for the Web program team.
Iβm excited to contribute to the early stages of an ecosystem that is unlocking micropayments on the web. Making economic interactions as easy (and as cheap) as information exchange is a game changer with the potential to launch a radically different, more inclusive web economy built on the equitable and open exchange of funds.
Hello everyone. My name is Mathew Safford (he/him). Most know me as MateoXRP on MG.Social which is an ad-free web-monetized social network that I founded earlier this year.
We allow content creators to web-monetize their postings and accept XRP tips through the Xumm app.
Our current focus is on creating mobile apps (iOS and Android) for MG.Social which we hope to release in early 2021. Good luck to everyone with their various projects!
Great to see MG.Social here! We're often in total awe at the speed at which MG.Social rolls out features to their platform. It's incredible and if you haven't checked it out the platform is an incredible example of how web monetization can be used to encourage creators to share their work... We have no doubt MG.Social is going to be one of the corner stones of the web monetization movement.
Thank you for the kind words. We are just trying to keep up with gFam!
Hey folks! My name is Michael and I'm a Community Manager Forem / DEV β the platform behind this community.
Anyway, I'm from North Carolina (in the US) and an interesting fact about myself: I had 4 broken bones in 5 years. 2 were from skating and 2 from soccer.
As for web monetization, I'm most excited about personal payment pointers. I love that community members who create content can receive payment for their work. By the way, you can set up a payment pointer right here in this community. Just go here in your settings and look for Web Monetization > Payment Pointer.
Hello Michael, is there any plan to get a platform with faster reply rate and where we can talk between projects owners, like a discord?
Hey Eric!
We actually have a built-in feature on Forem for chat called Connect β you should see the speech bubble icon for it in the top right hand corner.
We haven't yet fully activated this channel, but I know that we plan on opening up some real time chat channels via Connect soon. We're still thinking through the logistics of what channels we want to open up, but once we've figured it all out, you can expect these channels to open up!
Hello everybody!
Nick here, or as most people know me on other platforms, NickelNDime. I hail out of the Metro Detroit area, from the great state of Michigan. By trade I'm a guitar/uke/bass instructor by day, and working musician by night.
Thanks for the invite to this community, and if there's anyway I can lend a helping hand to anyone, just reach out!
Hi Nick! I'm a musician as well (more shirking than working though). I'm curious - are you a grantee too? Or interested in WM for other reasons?
Not a grantee, although I am reapplying for a second chance! Here's some of my most recent music I've worked on:

I'm Michael (he/she/gender fluid)
Excited to join this community.
I'm leading a global team of educators, social sector leaders, and technology experts collaborating to:
β’ Remake remote learning;
β’ Claim individual power of data; and
β’ Create learning ecosystems with new fundamental technology.
Monetizing our learning data and content is a central part of our pathway forward.
I'm eager to connect with anyone interested here and on LinkedIn at linkedin.com/in/mwrxyz/
You can get an insider look of the first phase of our effort here (embargoed - just for this group): lpath.me/interview_with_LGO
Hi Michael,
I'm finally here. Thank you for getting me onboard. I'm exploring things here and will be in touch soon.

Hello!
I'm Amy James, I'm the co-inventor of Open Index Protocol a spec for a persistent worldwide index and file library useful for data publishing, file distribution and facilitating direct payments & I'm the creator of the video series What Kind of Internet Do You Want? (see season 1 here: youtube.com/channel/UCwR-u1AGVYre-...) We are now creating season 2 of the show with support from Grant for the Web!
We are based in sunny San Diego, CA and I love it - but every winter when the temps drop into the 50's I try to convince my husband we should move to Florida - I hate cold weather!
I'm most excited about Web Monetization because of how it will help artists & creators - being able to control your own distribution & get paid directly is a game changer!!
Stoked to be part of this community & looking forward to getting to know you all!
Great to be here :)
Hi everyone! My name is Joep, and I'll be working on linking the Interledger spec to Solid (personal data) servers to enable monetizing data! We're expecting to share knowledge and spec suggestions in this github repo.
This sounds really cool. Checked out the repo. How is the project going?
Currently working on the design and setting up project architecture! Do you also have plans on linking with the Solid ecosystem?
Considering it. Hence my interest!
Hey folks, I work on a comedy site called Widget (widgetmag.com), we're using GftW to pay for contributors as well as some open-source equity deliverables. (More info on our plans here: widgetmag.com/2020/10/gftw/.)
I'm excited about reader-supported subscription models that allow publishers to offer nice bonuses to their subscribers. I think Coil could be super cool if we can get adoption to a critical mass.
I've got a question. (LMK if there's somewhere better to put this.) Is it possible to run a Coil script in a Discord server? (Maybe via a custom bot? This post seems promising β devdungeon.com/content/javascript-....)
It's certainly possible, @scallemang . See: ToS;DR
...and if you need help @michielbdejong set that, up so should be able to assist...
I was able to edit the theme of forum.tosdr.org and add the meta tag into the header there, yes. But that was Discourse, not Discord. Maybe try with dev.to/harshhhdev/colouring-discor...
Awesome, thank you. Will look into this.
Oops. Discourse vs Discord. I always mess these up. Apologies.
Hi all, I'm Doug, and I'm the co-founder of Mural (getmural.io), a tool for making "scrollytelling" multimedia stories. We're just getting started with our Grant for the Web project after a few delays, but I'm really happy to meet all of you, and to compare notes and experience!
Haha, love the word "scrollytelling" β great to have ya in the community!
