Hi everyone! πŸ‘‹

I'm Erika, I use she/her, and I'm on the Grant for the Web program team.

I’m excited to contribute to the early stages of an ecosystem that is unlocking micropayments on the web. Making economic interactions as easy (and as cheap) as information exchange is a game changer with the potential to launch a radically different, more inclusive web economy built on the equitable and open exchange of funds.

Hello everyone. My name is Mathew Safford (he/him). Most know me as MateoXRP on MG.Social which is an ad-free web-monetized social network that I founded earlier this year.

We allow content creators to web-monetize their postings and accept XRP tips through the Xumm app.

Our current focus is on creating mobile apps (iOS and Android) for MG.Social which we hope to release in early 2021. Good luck to everyone with their various projects!

Great to see MG.Social here! We're often in total awe at the speed at which MG.Social rolls out features to their platform. It's incredible and if you haven't checked it out the platform is an incredible example of how web monetization can be used to encourage creators to share their work... We have no doubt MG.Social is going to be one of the corner stones of the web monetization movement.

Hey folks! My name is Michael and I'm a Community Manager Forem / DEV β€” the platform behind this community.

Anyway, I'm from North Carolina (in the US) and an interesting fact about myself: I had 4 broken bones in 5 years. 2 were from skating and 2 from soccer.

As for web monetization, I'm most excited about personal payment pointers. I love that community members who create content can receive payment for their work. By the way, you can set up a payment pointer right here in this community. Just go here in your settings and look for Web Monetization > Payment Pointer.

Hey Eric!

We actually have a built-in feature on Forem for chat called Connect β€” you should see the speech bubble icon for it in the top right hand corner.

We haven't yet fully activated this channel, but I know that we plan on opening up some real time chat channels via Connect soon. We're still thinking through the logistics of what channels we want to open up, but once we've figured it all out, you can expect these channels to open up!

Hello!

I'm Amy James, I'm the co-inventor of Open Index Protocol a spec for a persistent worldwide index and file library useful for data publishing, file distribution and facilitating direct payments & I'm the creator of the video series What Kind of Internet Do You Want? (see season 1 here: youtube.com/channel/UCwR-u1AGVYre-...) We are now creating season 2 of the show with support from Grant for the Web!

We are based in sunny San Diego, CA and I love it - but every winter when the temps drop into the 50's I try to convince my husband we should move to Florida - I hate cold weather!

I'm most excited about Web Monetization because of how it will help artists & creators - being able to control your own distribution & get paid directly is a game changer!!

Stoked to be part of this community & looking forward to getting to know you all!

Hey folks, I work on a comedy site called Widget (widgetmag.com), we're using GftW to pay for contributors as well as some open-source equity deliverables. (More info on our plans here: widgetmag.com/2020/10/gftw/.)

I'm excited about reader-supported subscription models that allow publishers to offer nice bonuses to their subscribers. I think Coil could be super cool if we can get adoption to a critical mass.

I've got a question. (LMK if there's somewhere better to put this.) Is it possible to run a Coil script in a Discord server? (Maybe via a custom bot? This post seems promising – devdungeon.com/content/javascript-....)

I'm very new to monetization, so I look forward to getting your wisdom when I ask clueless questions in coming months.

My name is Dee, and I’m the CEO and Creative Director of Erase All Kittens - a web-based adventure game designed to inspire kids, especially young girls, to code and create. EAK works in a different way to other coding tools, in that players need to hack into the game's source code in order to build and fix levels as they play (in HTML and CSS, so far!). My name is Achim. I'm from the beautiful and heavily underestimated city of Wuppertal in Germany. I'm a journalist and I specialize in open source. I like hot spicy asian food.

I'm the founder of RoundOF (roundof.org), a social network with social funding.
RoundOF is chargeable based on a gift economy: members grant each other periods of membership. It's like a drinking round. No one pays for themselves on RoundOF – you can't. In gift economies timing is critical: How long do you wait to return a favour? WM would allow me to set much shorter and cheaper periods of membership and therefore intensify the social interactions of giving.

Hi there! πŸ‘‹

I'm Benny, a happy and excited Spark Grantee, also spending most of my time on different ecommerce projects to support my lifestyle, which currently allows me to be based in Thailand. πŸ‡ΉπŸ‡

I got involved with Web Monetization as soon as I learned that I could implement it on my own blog, which I launched in early 2019. The technology just seems so very promising for so many issues β€” I was hooked right away.

I've been posting monthly Coil income reports on my blog, which have helped to spark some curiosity among readers of my blog.

My GftW project is targeting the knowledge sharing content niche and I want to set up a small online course platform that anyone with a Coil membership can use easily, as for me the thought of a "universal subscription" for content on the web is a very appealing one.

Looking forward to exchange ideas around here!

Hi Everyone

I'm Alan, I was awarded a Spark level grant to integrate WM into Teddy Story, my side project to publish children's stories. My day job is in central IT in a university here in New Zealand, but I don't usually write code so its been a fun learning experience.

After a couple of months working on it I finally pushed the button on my first release last night... and then this morning I went back and corrected all the DNS settings I'd got wrong :) Now the link up there actually works!

I'm still catching my breath after getting the site live, so will shift some focus onto organising what I found/learned and writing something up about that next. I do just want to say that working with the WM technologies has been great so far, haven't had any real issues (that weren't located between the keyboard and the chair).
