I wondered if anyone has suggestions for bringing web monetization perks into newsletters?
I send a newsletter with Prototypr, and it could be cool to remove ads for those users who use a WM provider like coil. After testing, I found the web monetization meta tag does not work in emails (tried outlook and gmail).
Does anyone know if this could become possible one day, or any ideas for bringing WM benefits into a newsletter?

I think @uchibeke would have a better idea... but the problem for emails is where they would be read. Web Monetization, at the moment, relies on a browser extension to pick up the payment pointers from the content. The email would need to be read in a application (like Outlook.live.com) that was web monetized (ie, coded in a way to recognise the browser extension and could provide different payment pointers for the different newsletter creators).
There's definitely an idea in there though... an application where you read web monetized newsletters... something like listnerds.com/?
The application for web monetized newsletters sounds really cool! listnerds to me looks a bit complicated with blockchain, but it's a good example - really glad to see people are trying something different with email
I'll have a research around this, thanks for the leads!
It should be possible if the email client devs implement Web Monetization themselves.
yeah I can't see Outlook 2007 or all of the many email clients aligning on it, but I wonder if there was something like the puma browser that could do it
