Ambassadors

Community Ambassador Victoria Coker, Examining the Factors Behind Unbanked Households in America explores three US states with large populations of unbanked people: Mississippi, Louisiana (New Orleans), and New York in her interim reportand details the work to identify a specific group of individuals from these communities. Victoria conducted interviews with key stakeholders, specifically Mississippi and New Orleans, leading to a connection with Sheena Allen, the founder of CapWay and Sheena Allen Apps. Sheena has since participated as a presenter with Victoria in a well-received workshop at the ILP Summit in Cape Town and will be featured in the upcoming "Future Money" podcast series.

Interledger Ambassador Ayden Ferdeline writes in his progress report an update on stewarding the work of the UN Internet Governance Forum Dynamic Coalition on Digital Financial Inclusion convening several times making progress towards a statement of principles that will be launched in Riyadh in December 2024. Ayden also led the Parliamentarian Track at the recent Interledger Summit in Cape Town, with elected representatives with bespoke programming, allowing them to explore the opportunities and challenges associated with building digital public infrastructure and in fostering responsible open payments.

Digital Financial Services Grantees

Wallet Guru Co-Founder Fernando Almiñana shares an update in this Progress Report on the prototyping stage of their project which is pay-as-you-go payment processing system developed by Wallet Guru, designed to transform how individuals manage their financial assets. The platform seamlessly integrates the robust capabilities of the Interledger Protocol into a user-friendly and secure digital wallet. This service allows users to customize their spending and usage behavior across available utility services, all linked to a prepaid digital wallet.

Mexico-based project The People’s Clearinghouse Roberto Valdovinos details in interim report working with communities in very diverse rural areas, by asking what the right path is for fostering sustainable regional development, in a way that doesn’t build any sort of dependency, but rather strengthens communities and promotes their self-sufficiency. AMUCSS a main stakeholder decided that the right path is to help build people-owned community banks in those regions. But the growth of a community bank in a non dynamic economic region can be complex and slow.

Partners

Interledger Foundation partnered with Snake Nation’s Dre Ngare for the ILP Summit in Cape Town to activate local change-makers and better engage local stakeholders while advancing ILF’s digital finance inclusion initiative. The final report, discusses how Snake Nation leveraged this opportunity to build stronger bonds with local and regional regulators, entrepreneurs, government officials, and the broader open-source development community.
